The best home remodeling projects start with an idea.  Here are a few tips to get you started!

Have an inspiration.

Find a picture of your dream home, kitchen, or bath and start from there.  The internet is a great way to search for inspiration photos and can easily be saved to your computer so that you can share them with your contractor or designer.  Home design and decorating magazines are also a great place to find home ideas.

Get organized.
Start a folder with notes on your ideas and objectives and add to it as you develop your project. Think about design, materials and how it will fit into your family’s lifestyle.  You’ll find that your project will move along quickly and with minimal inconvenience, if you have a plan in place before beginning your renovation.

It’s all in the numbers.
Create a budget and stick to it. Unless you have unlimited resources, you’ll have a set amount of money budgeted for your remodeling project.

During the planning process, work with your contractor to determine where you would like to spend your dollars. You can usually get the look you want at a price you can afford. A good contractor knows that completing a project on budget goes a long way toward developing a customer for life.

Grab attention.
Countertops and tile are the stars of most kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects. They add color, texture and style to the room and turn drab, outdated spaces into beautiful rooms that are comfortable and interesting. Whatever your style preference, put time into choosing countertops and tile that add a personal touch to your project.

Paint the town.
Don’t underestimate the importance of a fresh coat of paint, it is an inexpensive way to brighten up any room and adds more to the feel of a space than you might think.  Choose neutral colors for a calm quiet space and brighter colors for more vibrant living areas. A bold color choice can also be the perfect way to accent a room.
